At some point during that extremely dark and frozen winter 2022/23 here in England.. i made a new friend with a freshly built garage and a great idea for a mural.
Throughout Christmas and into the new year whilst painting in the Town Hall, i directed my running routes and family walks towards Shapwick heath to get to grips with her idea of a design based around the thousands starlings that come into roost at sunset throughout these dark months of the year.A view that can be seen from this location too, at the top of HillHead / Wearyall Hill in Glastonbury.
One freezing sunday evening i saw a particularly stunning murmuration and the beauty and intelligence of nature had me in floods of tears, As well as the feeling of gratitude to be in the right space/time/place to not only witness that but have a potential paid project in the pipeline that would enable me to try to depict that nature scene in my own painty way, across approx 35sq metres of wall.
And….. it all happened!
So although it still feels a little like winter on some days and getting this done amidst April showers was pretty drawn out. ..
We have made it! We have moved through that dark part of the year, the changes in the sky and the air carry us constantly towards the next phase. When I’m reminded of that , the ride doesn’t seem quite so rough!
Thanks The Glastonbury Mural Trail for the support and to Paul and Juliet for the wall, the idea and the general good vibes
