AS A MURAL ARTIST I have been lucky enough to travel to many parts of the world and contribute to many communities with my designs. Taking inspiration from the local plantlife and drawing attention to small aspects of nature with my large scale artworks is my way of enhancing my own sense of place and connecting with the culture wherever i am.
AS A PRINTMAKER I use a variety of different screen-printing techniques to create unique or small variable editioned prints on paper. The subject matter for this work usually corresponds to the plant studies that occur during my mural design projects. The planning and process involved with this type of image-making really suits my love of systems and process, while at the same time leaving space to explore and make spontaneous decisions, something i can’t do whilst painting in public up ladders.
SKETCHBOOKS Are a large part of my creative process. I begin all of my projects this way, drawing from observation out in the fresh air, as much as possible. I then return to the pages to add to them with layers of print, paint and collage that encapsulate the themes with which i am working over a certain time period. The result is that i own a library of dense visual documents that are some of my most treasured possessions.
GROUP AND COLLABORATIVE EXHIBITIONS That i have contributed to have been varied . Showing my work in a group environment has never failed to initiate important relationships and to connect me more to my kind of people.
